Blue Economy

Marine, coastal, freshwater and wetland ecosystems are among the most productive — and most vulnerable — on Earth. We protect them through an integrated approach that links livelihoods, climate resilience and biodiversity.

The Challenge

Productive waters under pressure

Heavy reliance on aquatic ecosystems — including over-exploitation — is driving dramatic change across marine, coastal, freshwater and wetland systems.

Conservation Alliance International seeks to protect these ecosystems through an integrated approach for socio-economic improvement, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and wider biodiversity conservation targets.

What We Do

An integrated approach to blue landscapes

Four connected workstreams that keep coasts, wetlands and fisheries healthy and productive.

Mainstreaming Biodiversity

Embedding biodiversity conservation into the coastal and fishery production landscape to promote sustainability across Ghana's marine production landscapes.

CoastalFisheries

Mangrove & Wetland Restoration

Restoring mangrove and wetland ecosystems — including the Songor, Muni–Pomadze and Densu wetlands — through a community-based approach.

Coastal Ecological Assessment

Assessing the ecological integrity of the Southern Coastal landscape to identify areas suitable for ecosystem restoration and biodiversity offset.

Sustainable Fisheries

Improving livelihoods through sustainable fishery development — so coastal communities can prosper without depleting the resource they depend on.

In Focus · Wetland Restoration

Restoring wetlands, community by community

Mangroves and wetlands buffer coasts, store carbon and cradle fisheries. We restore three of Ghana's most important wetland systems through a community-based approach.

  • 01
    Songor

Restoring one of Ghana's key Ramsar wetland and lagoon systems.

  • 02
    Muni–Pomadze

Rehabilitating coastal wetland habitat and its biodiversity.

  • 03
    Densu

Reviving the Densu delta's mangroves alongside local communities.

Our Approach

One integrated strategy for water, wildlife and people

We protect coastal, marine, freshwater and wetland ecosystems through a single integrated approach that delivers on three fronts at once.

Socio-economic

Improving livelihoods for the communities that rely on these waters.

Climate Resilience

Supporting both mitigation and adaptation across blue landscapes.

Biodiversity

Widening conservation targets across marine and wetland systems.

Protect Our Waters

Keep coasts and wetlands alive

Support community-based restoration and sustainable fisheries that protect Ghana's blue landscapes for generations to come.
