As implementing partner for the UTZ–Rainforest Alliance Sector Partnership, we promoted Integrated Pest Management as an alternative to pesticides — and left behind farmer-led associations to keep it going.
A safer path for cocoa
Pesticide use is prevalent in Ghana's cocoa sector. To reduce it, we implemented a project promoting Integrated Pest Management (IPM) as a safer alternative.
Conservation Alliance was engaged by UTZ–Rainforest Alliance as implementing partner for its Sector Partnership programme, leveraging our long experience and farmer relationships across the Bia, Enchi and Kakum landscapes.
The project gave rise to lasting farmer institutions — the Conservation Cocoa Association and the Adehye Farmers Association — to carry IPM forward.

Farmer-Led Management Systems
Beyond training, the project established local farmer systems that continue to manage cocoa across the landscape long after the programme.
Two associations, built to last
The clearest legacy of the project is the farmer institutions it created to keep IPM alive on the ground.
Conservation Cocoa Association (CCA)
Formed for the Bia and Kakum landscapes to champion IPM and serve as a local system for managing cocoa across the landscape.
Adehye Farmers Association
Formed for the Enchi landscape with the same mission — promoting IPM and supporting sustainable cocoa management among local farmers.
