The Challenge

Great potential, unpredictable water

The Northern regions could supply the bulk of Ghana's food and industrial raw materials β€” yet smallholders remain exposed to drought, floods, pests and disease.

To remedy this, Conservation Alliance and PAVE Irrigation Systems promote PAVE Irrigation Technology (PIT) β€” a rainwater-harvesting and aquifer-recharge system that injects excess water underground during rainy days and floods, storing it for dry-season farming and supplementing irrigation during short rains.

The materials to build it can be sourced almost anywhere in the world β€” making the innovation easy to replicate across regions.
