MAINSTREAMING BIODIVERSITY INTO NATIONAL AND SECTORAL DEVELOPMENT PLANS
Conservation Alliance International is at the forefront of efforts to mainstream biodiversity into Ghana’s national and sectoral development plans, ensuring that conservation is not treated as a standalone activity but as a central pillar of sustainable growth. The initiative promotes the integration of biodiversity values, ecosystem services, and natural capital considerations into key policy frameworks, planning processes, and economic decision-making across sectors such as agriculture, forestry, mining, water, and infrastructure.
Through technical support, policy dialogue, and capacity building, Conservation Alliance works with government institutions including the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology (MEST), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) to embed biodiversity priorities into national strategies, including the Medium-Term National Development Policy Framework.
This integration ensures that development actions contribute to environmental sustainability while enhancing economic and social wellbeing.
Through its work, Conservation Alliance ensures that biodiversity conservation becomes a shared national responsibility integrated into every stage of planning, implementation, and monitoring of development initiatives.
