HUMAN-WILDLIFE CONFLICT

Human–wild life conflict (HWC) refers to problematic situations between wild animals and people when their individual needs overlap, with consequential costs to both the humans and the animals alike. In most HWC situations, wild animals invade human settlements and raid crops, cause damage to personal belongings, injure or kill livestock and even injure or kill people. Humans in turn become hostile towards the wildlife and in some case kill them as well. In respect of the project, the Wildlife Division provided both technical and administrative support for this project while Conservation Alliance was responsible for field implementation of the project activities. Specifically, the WD assigned field officers for specific activities, monitor project activities to ensure successful implementation and review periodic reports for submission to the African Elephant Fund. Conservation Alliance promoted and supervised the adoption of the Human Elephant Conflict (HEC) mitigation methods by beneficiary communities.
