Conservation Alliance UTZ Sector Partnership Program

The use of pesticides is prevalent in Ghana’s cocoa sector. as a way of reducing the use of pesticides within Ghana’s Cocoa sector, a project to promote integrated pest Management (IPM) as an alternative to the use of pesticides was implemented. Conservation Alliance (CA) was engaged by UTZ-Rainforest Alliance to be an implementing partner for its Sector Partnership (SP) program. CA leveraged its experience and connections with farmers in the Bia, Enchi and Kakum landscapes for the implementation of the project.

Out of this project led to the formation of the Conservation Cocoa Association (CCA) for the Bia and Kakum landscapes, and the Adehye Farmers Association for the Enchi landscape. These associations were formed to promote the goal of the project which is ‘to promote integrated pest Management (IPM) as an alternative to the use of pesticides’ amongst the local farmers and serve as a local system that aids in the management of cocoa within the landscape. The various associations had other goals which were targeted and implemented.
