Brief Introduction
This initiative focused on protecting the ecological integrity of the Atewa Range Forest Reserve by empowering women in the Obuoho community
to take stronger roles in sustainable natural resource governance. The project integrated biodiversity conservation, climate-smart agriculture, capacity building, and the use of geospatial tools to support informed
decision-making. Efforts emphasize strengthening women’s leadership, enhancing market access, promoting agroecology, restoring degraded areas, and building a community-led GIS database that can improve long-term biodiversity monitoring and landscape management.
Date of Implementation: 2023-2024
Implementation Site: Obuoho community, Atewa Range Forest Reserve, Ghana.
Outcome / Impact
The project trained 30 women as Trainers of Trainers, enhanced sustainable practices among 60% of community participants, increased Integrated Pest Management adoption by about 40%, reduced post-harvest losses by 10%, and supported the planting of over 1,000 tree seedlings to restore degraded areas.
